ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Cancer Working Package (WP4) of the IMPaCT Genómica program aims to improve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of suspected hereditary cancers and cancers of unknown origin that have not been resolved with the current tools of the healthcare system.
The WP4 team, led by Dr. Gabriel Capellà (IDIBELL) collaborates with over 80 healthcare professionals and scientists from national reference institutions and collaborative initiatives, such as CIBERONC or the Spanish Group of Cancers with Unknown Origin (GECOD). The team ensures standardized procedures for processing somatic samples and interpreting genetic variants according to current guidelines. The goal is to provide timely and tailored clinical feedback to patients. Furthermore, this initiative will also collect genomic data for future research on the molecular basis of cancer.
MAIN RESEARCH goals
- Improvement of diagnostic, prevention and therapeutic efficacy of cases with suspicion of hereditary cancer and primary cancers of unknown origin that have not been resolved by the current tools of the healthcare system.
- Standarization of somatic sample processing and genetic variant interpretation according to current guidelines.
- Use of collected genomic data for research, contributing to the knowledge of the molecular basis and clinical management of cancer.
